Hand, foot and mouth disease in a adult onset 2 days ago. any treatment to reduce the severity
Hand, foot & mouth disease is older than the hills. It usually is blisters of the palms, soles of feet & in the mouth like canker sores. It can be quite painful & very uncomfortable. My kids all 3 had it at the same time, & the baby was still suckling. When I took them to the doctor he counted over 40 canker sores in the baby's mouth. Poor little guy couldn't even suck on a bottle because it hurt so bad. Anyway. you should clear up after about 2 weeks time. It a virus, I believe, & takes about 15 days or so to run it's course...
I realize this question is several months old... but it is worth mentioning that adults rarely get this and there is no known prescription medication that would help this. I can suggest biotene mouthwash because it is soothing to the mouth and gargling with it is also helpful. Drinking lots of cool water will help, too. They normally recommend an o-t-c analgesic to help with the pain.
It is highly contagious so cleaning all surfaces is recommended and constantly washing hands is also optimal to prevent spreading it. Keeping children's toys clean is also very important. Just remembering to wash, wash and wash your hands when handling garbage bags, kitty litter... raw meat, diaper changing... wash, wash and wash your hands.
