Summer; Don't know who has been telling you about an EKG prior to these type medications. But that is rarely a problem you son like many with his condition are running in high gear as it is. And I am sure your son's doctor has checked him out like listening to his breathing and heartbeat etc. where the doctor could hear missed beats etc. which would be a reason to run other tests to make sure. These type medication really slow down your son's heartbeat and such and this is why the doctor does not want to do a needless test. But it would be nice if he or she had a better bedside manner or office humor. Even in these medications, they do not say that all these tests need to be done prior to prescribing them. you and your son should be good to go. But it is very good that you keep on top of what is going on. I would be concerned also if I did not know but this doctor may be the best in his field but needs to know how to interact with worried patients. Have a good weekend Chuck1957
