My 4 year old son was prescribed Clonidine for Adhd and having trouble sleeping. He has only been on it for about 4 days now but it's causing him to be very very sleepy and he is only taking half of .01 still since it's the first week. They want us to increase it to the full dose after 7 days. He barely seems to be able to handle the half dose so I can't imagine what he will be like on the full dose. Also now, even when he is really tired he says he doesn't want to close his eyes because he sees monsters and ghosts. This has never been an issue for us before. I'm really considering not using this medication but just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem? Also since taking the medicine he has become very out of it throughout the day. Just hoping that is something that's an effect in the early stages of the medication.
Call the doctor right away to tell him how he is with the meds! I had my 12 year old adhd go on meds and had to change 3 times before we found the right one for him. Regarding him not sleeping you may want to give the med as early as possible so he can sleep at night. My son is 19 now and doing great with his meds and college!
Hello, I don’t known what youre situation is but I want to let you know some facts. most ADHD medications have severe adverse effects. More importantly, most of their mechanism of actions are not fully comprehended yet ( Yes we don’t know how some of them even work till today). Thus, their use shouldn’t be taken lightly. Your son is 4 years old... 4 years. The brain doesn’t fully develop until the early 20s. How do you know that he needs this medication if he is only 4 years old? You are making that decision for him with no basis and when he grows up, if he decides to stop it he simply won’t be able to.
Hi. For me when at night and i needed to sleep it worked. Although it never was prescribed for daytime for me. Only at night. My focus was the issue with adhd. First of all i was never given multiple avenues or things that would get me interested in so i bounced around learning a little about alot of things until my mom saw that certain things kept or caught my curiosity and attention. When she was encouraging and inspiring me to learn i played 5 different musical instruments, read 1000's of books. Eventually i found knowledge through reading focused and satisfied the mental focus. Physical activity, baseball, football and just riding a bike helped with the physical energy i possesed. ADHD should never be looked at as a disability all i needed was someone to direct me and nurture my abilities. That was my Mother for me. Today i have AADHD. I've read 1000's of books. Last year i was doing around 600 push-ups a day and riding at least 10 miles everyday.
And in between i was reading about 5 books a week. 2 chapters in each book each day. I scored 3rd highest on the SATs and went to college. Kolonidine my be necessary for now like other medicine was for me at that age. It will get better and easier when he focuses on more mindful things combined with physical activity. I hope! That's my Story. Oh learning video games focus and teach adhd kids. Like Me.
