I've had really bad cystic acne for over 10 years now, I have tried everything from over the counter medication and prescription drugs. I can't seem to get rid of it. I eventually have to go get my cysts on my face lanced open. I don't know what to do anymore, but it's ruining my life.
Aczone doesn't work for everyone. Everyone's skin is different and responds differently to different things. Aczone may work for you.
If you have severe acne you should seek advice from a skin specialist.
Oral treatment is normally more effective with most patients using isotretinoin (Accutane, Claravis)
High dose antibiotics for 6 months or longer are another option. In women oral anti-androgens such as spironolactone or certain oral contraceptives are another choice.
Acne can almost always be controlled with medication. However, results may not be seen for weeks or months. Most topical medicines work within four to eight weeks. Tretinoin may show peak results in three to six months.
