So I will be 36 weeks pregnant on Sunday. This is my first pregnancy and it's been rough. Before getting pregnant I had lost 150lbs and finally felt good about myself. Of course I've gained 80 of that back now. I've had multiple health issues while pregnant ranging from thyroid to boils to iron, and now herpes. So I had a place come up yesterday on my vagina lip. It hurts but it's not unbearable, I do have a high pain tolerance though. I couldn't see it because of my stomach lol, so I took a picture and it is a cluster of small, raised blisters, with what looks like white or yellow centers. I immediately googled herpes lol. And of course it does look like herpes. Now about 2 months before I found out I was pregnant I had another spot near the top of my vagina that looked similar. I freaked out and had it tested and it came back as folliculitis. Which to me, based on pics online, does look somewhat like herpes. So today I had my weekly visit with my midwife and showed the spot to her and she immediately thought it was herpes. She did a culture, which was painful cause they had to scrap it to get some liquid out. And called me in a prescription for acyclovir, a herpes medication. Next week when I got back she is going to do blood work also for the herpes. I'm not sure why she is waiting, but I'm sure she knows why. So I took my first dose of the meds just now. I take 3 pills a day for 5 days, then she wants me to take 2 pills a day until birth. I know that if an outbreak is present I'll have to have a c-section. Which is fine, whatever needs done for the the baby. So I have a few questions. Has anyone with herpes given birth vaginally? If so did it work out/was the baby okay? Anyone have any crappy side effects from this medicine? Anything I should know or anything useful would be appreciated. This pregnancy has been stressful.
