Now I am getting scared. Physical Therapy doctor recommended acupuncture for my hip and back pain. My family dr. I have known for 30 years would have recommended this procedure but I don't think he believes in it. My medical conditions: Degenerative Joint Disease, Osteoarthritis, 2 surgeries one to L4,L5 and S1 with Titanium and one to my neck for spinal stenosis (cadaver bone replacement). I read some information about acupuncture and I am not sure this is the answer. I am scheduled for physical therapy for the 9th time but what is the feedback on this acupuncture?
you know I am going to be honest I have heard about this a lot but for me to say that I am educated and know enough in order to give you what you need to know am not, I have had frineds that procalaim that it has done wonders for them but as far as me being able to tell you first hand I am not able to do that, the idea dosen't scare me as much as once I am informed then I want to know what a person can expect in the way of results (especially in the way of reduction of pain) the site Maso left is probably a good place for us to start, but I need educating as much as you do, I do know we have one man who practices this in his Chronic pain management practice but that only leads me to more questions, I hope that you are able to find what you need and are able to make an informed decision, and whatsmore hope if you decide to try this that it does you a lot of good!! would like to hear from you no matter what you decide~~
This modality has been practiced for years and as long as you have an experienced acupuncturist, you should be fine. It is worth taking the chance as it does not hurt much at all. Some people feel absolutely nothing, so don't be afraid of the needles or the fact that it isn't yet fully accepted by the medical community. It will be soon when more people benefit from it. Hope this answer helps you. Good Luck
It sounds like we have similar situations as far as pain causes and family doctors. I have digenerative disc disease (spinal stenosis) and osteoarthritis. i have had two surgeries on my neck, from the front they fused c4 to c-5 and c-5 to c-6, then from the back they removed bone spurs etc. still have neck pain 24/7. now have hip/back pain generating from sacroiliac joint, only buldging discs, no herniations, but have swelling that looks to be aggravating the situation. i have had every kind of pt except for acupuncture, i'm sure my family doctor would not recommend it. however, my hairdresser that i was going to up until about 2 years ago swears by it. she goes regularly, like some go for pressure point massages. i think you are on the right track as far as going to the consult with an open mind and determine if you want to try it from that. i don't know what the down side is, other than it not working. i am very interested in the result if you decide to try it.
my neurologist is getting ready to suggest pt again if the dose pac i just took does not break this pain flair up cycle and he is younger and more open minded, i would love to discuss it with him after hearing your results. good luck!!
