We received a call from a patient who stated that her pharmacy told her that actonel was no longer available. Is this true or is it just back ordered?
I can't find anything that says its discontinued. What we're seeing a lot of is the distributors aren't carrying brand name meds so that for that pharmacy they become unavailable. The pharmacy says its no longer available and the patient thinks that means its not being made anymore. That is what the pharmacy wants you to think. I have called the manufacturer of the drug when I heard this regarding my own meds and found that they are still making it. Going to a pharmacy that uses a different distributor can help that. Generics are available usually, but I've even had a problem with them.
