for the past 5 years I've been taking Norco 10/325 3 times a day this is the only thing that I've been given that takes my knee pain from 7or 8 out of 10 to about 3 or 4 out of ten resting or 6 or 7 being active. Last mouth I found out that I have stage 3 liver desease. The doctor reconmended that I use A pain reliever that doesn't have Acetaminophen in it. I have an appointment on 20 Feb 13. But, I know nothing about pain reliever's So I need HELP what is on the same level as Norco 10/325 or even a little stronger. my Doctor is in a H.M.O. So I'll only 15min.'s to talk to her. By the way the only way that I can live pain free is to have a knee replacement all my doctors agree on this but also agree that I'm to young to have it done. also this pain was caused by an injury in the line of duty as a sheriff's deputy. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me :-)
I would say switching to plain oxycodone would be your best bet. Its a little stronger then norco. Even going to oxycontin would be good. Its the same med, but its long acting. With chronic pain the goal shifts from getting rid of the pain with an immediate release drug, to preventing the pain with a long acting med. Its more effective that way. Usually oxycodone ir would still be prescribed for breakthru pain, at least until you find what dose of oxycontin you'd need.
