... I'm 30 and live alone. I left 4 days after my surgery so I slept on an air mattress that leaks air and is flat by morning. The reason I left is we fought about my pain meds which were 30 mg Oxycodone I took maybe 5,6 a day along with Soma twice a day. When Dr saw my MRI's he asked how have I made it this long I said I took Percocet so My pain med tolerance is higher than other people. I was wondering if anyone who has had this kind of Cervical Surgery an ACDF, what is the normal pain management and for about how long before I need to completely stop meds?
Everyones recovery time and tolerance for meds is different so this is hard to say. Who were you fighting with as far as pain management-your Dr or your parents? Did your pain Dr think your oxycodone use was too high? Generally Oxycodone 30mg is ordered 1 tablet every 6 hours so 4 per day for maximum dose. I have heard of some people's Drs allowing them to take it every 4 hours giving them 6 times a day but this is a bit higher than recommended dose. There is certainly no "ceiling" on oxycodone. It can be given is as high a dose as the patient tolerates to relieve their pain but most docs dont like to go beyond the recommended dose. Most Drs like you to get off opioid pain meds by about 90 days after surgery, in my experience.
