I've been on the pill for 2 years now, and I recently switched to Microgestin 1/20. I just finished my first pack and bought a second one, and because I was used to my previous birth control (which I took every day), I accidently took the first pill of the new pack before realizing I was supposed to wait a week. Is this going to mess up my period for this week? Will it be ok to just wait the 7 days now and start back with the Monday pill?
I have to disagree. If you have a 21 day pack instead of a 28 day pack you are supposed to wait a week between packs since the 21 day pack doesnt have the "reminder" inactive pills. If you have already taken one active pill, just skip your period this month and continue with the pack. If you have taken one pill, then you skip a week and start again, you will be short a pill this month and could risk an unexpected pregnancy. It wont hurt you to skip your period once or twice a year. I would just continue with taking a pill a day and do an "off" week next month. Now you may experience some breakthrough spotting or bleeding. You may have a heavier period next month from skipping this months period. Both of these things can be expected but may not necessarily happen. Many women skip periods for special occasions with no changes in their cycle other than not having the inconvenience of your period. So no worries on that-it is ok to do a few times per year.
