Hydroxyzine reduces activity in the central nervous system and is an anti-histamine. It is used as a sedative to treat anxiety and tension and to treat the symptoms of allergy. It can also be used to treat nausea and vomiting.
Like many medicines used in your age group consideration needs to be given to the dose used. Generally it should be at the low end reflecting the greater frequency of decreased liver, kidney or heart function and other diseases or drug therapies.
You should be observed closely to make sure oversedation and confusion are avoided.
