Has it now turned to URI... requiring antibiotic.?
Bad lungs is the key here. Flu lasts a couple weeks. The cough maybe up to a month. However, a productive cough with phlegm or trouble catching ones breath after a bout means he needs the doctor. If nail beds on finger or toes, lips are turning blue he should go straight to the ER. If skin is gray or he seems listless, uncaring about things, I suggest the ER if he can not get to a doctor right away.
Secondary infection is more likely in a person with lung problems be it asthma, POCD or bronchitis. Also if he is on oxygen he needs to see someone now.
The flu is not treated with antibiotic. However, unless he was diagnosed with flu, it may not be the case.
