... And, are there any age specific side effects to be concerned about?
Hi, Horsetamer! Yes, lithium is the only true mood stabilizer and is still considered the gold standard. I'm 62 and have been taking 1500mg a day for over 5 years for Bipolar ll disorder with no side effects at all.
Hope you achieve the same excellent response!
Best regards, Wildcat
I’m 63 and have been taking the same dosage as you for about a year. Not bipolar, but was given as an add on to help stabilize my depression and moods. It’s become very common. No side effects except some weight gain. It has definitely worked. I hope you get the same results!
I am 69 years old and was diagnosed bipolar in 2000. I have been taking as much as 1800 mg of Lithium a day at times. Currently I am taking 300mg three times a day. The only side effect experienced has been erectile dysfunction. A price that I gladly pay for the super advantageous properties of what I consider to be the best drug and cheapest to treat this disorder.
I started taking lithium at the age of 25. I am now almost 54. I have been on 300 mg in the am and 600 mg in the pm. I am bipolar 1. I have gained 5 pounds. I have extreme thirst but I know from experience that I will always need to take it. I hope this helps. I have never heard about any age specifics on this. I have been taking lithium bicarbonate for almost 29 years. Take care
