Is 5mg prednisone reasonable oke to treat severe artritis long term?

It is. It is usually prescribed for that purpose. It reduces inflammation at the joints, but report to your doctor if you have a secondary infection (itching in vagina, cold, or flu). What prednisone does it suppress the immune response, which if you do develop an infection, it could take longer to heal. But you are taking a very low dose, and it should help inflammation in your joints if that is what you are experiencing.
