Went on Depakote and low dose prozak and it did take care of the mania, the God awful shopping sprees and the uncontrolable hoarding but I was sleeping 12 hours a night and sometimes taking naps. so I asked to be switched to a different med. Have been on Topamax for the last four months and it is not working All the above symptoms back plus not sleeping and having flashbacks of tramatic things from my youth. Last week I had a stress related heart attack. A month ago when I was having these flash backs I also had suicidal thoughts. I have a one year old Grandson and another on the way I really need to be here yet. I have read all the reviews on lithium am still scared but I am going to ask to be put on it instead of going back on depakote. Do ya think?
Baby girl you survived heart attack for a reason. You know god has a plan for both of us! I am a 2nd stage cancer survivor. And I was all alone. No support at all. I can't recall if I was ever put on lithium but at the time the weekly Prozac pill did wonders for me took 5-6 different kinds of anti depressants b4 trying taking 1 that didn't effect me in bad ways. Depakote? Isn't that considered a pain pill? I to think about suicide alot but I think that's because I am really lonely. Ask your dr about mood stabilizers. Only 1 I'm familiar with is kolonepin. 1 pill aday kept me nice & calm. Made it easier to focus aswell. I've had hyper-thyroid for 20 years now. Can't focus on any 1 thing for to long b4 having tomove on. I'm always figity & nervous. And that makes it impossible to fall asleep.
Anything you end up taking will not make your traumatic heart attack flash backs go away but it might help you to stay calm & in time they shouldnt come as often do you suffer from
Severe anxiety? Burst into tears at any time & have no reason to?
I have been diagnosed Bipolar since 2005.Lithium is a great old drug.In my opinion it has less side effects than depakota.Depakota gave me uncontrollable tremors and made my hair fall out.The only thing with lithium is that you need to monitor you blood levels.Your doctor can start you out low and raise you up until you get to a good level. It is also alot cheaper. They are not sure why lithium works but for those it works for it is great.
I have been on Lithium and Marerix for 5 years for Major depression. Lithium gave me the shakes and a few more side effects but went away after awhile. I also became hypothyroid after a year too. But I was in the hospital for 6 months before the doctors found this worked for me. I have my life back because of these meds. I am depression free for all these years now and am very happy.
I would give it a try.
