I very recently started fostering a family member that was already in a foster home. Since she had been with them they got her on medication. I've been going through all the paperwork and it just makes no sense to me. Why would a 5 year old be taking 10mg of Adderall and 10mg of Adderall XR every day?? Trust me I plan on talking to her doctors. In the mean time I'm just looking for some answers. I can't find anywhere online where someone even takes both pills. It seems like it's one or the other. I also read that Adderall XR isn't even recommended for children under 6? She takes the Adderall XR between 8am-9am and the Adderall between 12pm-1pm. I've noticed when she talks she tries to get everything out so fast, taking deep breaths every sentence so she can spew some more real fast. She can't fall asleep at night, is up till midnight or later. Is this normal?
Sigh... adderall with kids, not a big fan. Yes you can be prescribed IR and XR together, usually to avoid a crash or make it last. If shes talking fast and out of breath she is on too high of a dose, thats a bit of a hypomanic sign..she needs a smaller dosage, or maybe a less stimulating ADD med. With kids, I don't know why they start with Adderall- its too strong and not worth it for their growing brains and neurotransmitters IMHO.
