Is spironolactone cream that is used for hairloss absorbed systematically and excreted in urine. If so how long after last use can I expect it to show up in a urine test as it is a banned substance in ncaa sports.
Spironolactone pills are a diuretic and this is likely why they dont allow it, so athletes dont use it to lose water weight to make a certain weight class or whatever. Using it topically, you will absorb some of it systemically, but not much. I thought they gave spironolactone for unwanted hair growth (hirsutism) not unwanted hair loss because it can cause alopecia? The half life is short 1.25 to 2 hours so it will likely be undetectable within a few days if it would even show up at all since a topical is not going to give you a systemic level that taking a pill would. To be safest, give it a week. I think this will likely be much longer than you will need but better to be safe than sorry.
