I find the Benlysta is working well and don't have the level of pain I had. I still take 2 Ultram 4 X a day along with the APAP/Codeine and want to get rid of the addicting med first. I tried dropping it down to 2 a day, but don't feel too well and want to sleep all the time.
Been on 4X day>8 yrs for RA. Now get Benlysta for lupus & don't need it. How do I come off it?

I am trying to get off the APAP/Codeine that I have been on way too many years. The Benlysta seems to be working but I am sure it will take a while before it finishes what it's supposed to do.

Sorry about the question. It seems very confusing. First time blogging.
Hi hishoney - Your initial drop from 4 daily to 2 daily was too big a drop right off the bat. That feeling of being unwell was likely symptoms of withdrawal. The process of weaning takes time. Talk with your prescribing doctor and just let them know that you want to come off of it and how can you do that without going through withdrawals. The doctor will respect your decision and help you. There are also some doctors who have NO CLUE how to properly wean a patient off of a pain killer that they have been on for that many years! I am going to give you a scenario that you can contemplate so you get an idea how it could go:
There is no rush in getting to "zero". You WILL get there eventually and hopefully without any withdrawal symptoms. Get yourself a pill cutter. So, the process could look like this BUT ask you doctor if this plan sounds like a good one. You can go from 4 whole tabs daily to 3 and 1/2 tabs, 4x daily for 2 weeks to 3 tabs 4x daily for 2 weeks to 2-1/2 tabs, 4x daily for 2 weeks to 2 tabs, 4x daily for 2 weeks to 1-1/2 tabs, 4x daily for 2 weeks to 1 tab split 4 ways so it can be taken 4x daily for 2 weeks then 3/4 of a tab, 3 x daily for a week then 1/2 tab split and taken 2x daily for a week to 1/2 tab split once daily for one week and then you are done after that last week. For instance, doing it as outlined above takes 14 weeks or 3-1/2 months. I'm not saying to do it this way... I am suggesting to you how LONG it can take to be done with it for good and be safe in the process. Eating a well-balanced diet and making sure you stay hydrated is very important. If you drop your meds too quickly you can go from constipation to diarrhea pretty quickly... or just feeling unwell as you mentioned or that general malaise...
I wish you well and you can always post to seek help as you go through the weaning process or just wanting support as you go...
