I'm doing this at the doctors recommendation, and I'm concerned with a lot of the negative things I'm seeing posted here and in other places. Specifically altered sex drive, heavy bleeding, pain during intercourse, etc. My issues are heavy periods, and birth control. I have one child. Also wondering about whether my partner might move it during foreplay with a finger, etc.
I am 43,never had kids, and have had the same issues due to a small fibroid in wall of my uterus, polyps, endometriosis and ovary cysts that go along with it..:(
I got the Mirena August 2010, since my blood pressure goes up from the pill.To my great relief, with Mirena I have had very few and tolerable side effects.
I felt more tired at first 2 month, and had moderate intermittant spotting, but to me it was tolerable. I think some was getting off the pill too. Each month my cycle became more normal and less spotting, until period was just a few days of spotting!! A miracle as far as I am concerned! The bad thing as time went on though, I have an endometrioma cyst that is increasingly painful and caused worse cramping with each cycle so I had to go back on pill too.I'm having another Laparoscopy for the cyst very soon, hoping to have no more pain, once its removed.Hope to just have Mirena and see if I can get away with just that till Menopause..
I think its been great for me, and now wish that I listened to docs and got it much sooner, but I was nervous too.
I doubt it can get dislodged easily, but I would ask your doc all the questions you need to make the decision.I have had no pain or bleeding from sex..only from cyst.
As I found out trying 6 diff pills before I found one that worked with me, everyone's chemistry different, so all you can do is try, and they can take it out. Just know my doc said to really give it 6 months to know if its right for you. Also, another thing: when/ if you get it, insertion felt like a really intense cramp for me, but it was quick. I took a valium and 1000 mg Ibuprofen. You'll probably be fine since you've had a child.. Hope this helps and keep posting, and I will too. J
No problems with Mirena and sex, husband doesn't feel strings at all.
I don't have a great libido naturally, but I felt like the progestin in Mirena was giving me a boost, until I went back on pill with estrogen in it..
The Mirena IS FDA approved for heavy bleeding, so I hope for you your doc can get it approved for you..Good Luck! J
