I have had tests ran and my thyroid and is supposedly normal. I had a hysterectomy at 30. I really am devastated and confused because I have dry hair, skin and nails, also can not lose weight for anything. It really all came so sudden was not gradual. The weight was gradual, but the hair falling out was sudden. It comes out the most when I'm washing it. I can run my hands through my hair and I'll usually get 3 to 5 strands. In doing the research I show all the symptoms of having thyroid issues. I have no known baldness in my family. There are no bald spots just thinning. It has been happening for a couple of months now.I really need to find a solution and stop this before I lose it all. I am afraid to wash it.
I am a 40 year old female. My hair is falling out from the root and I do not know why?

I did forget to mention the exhaustion I am having. I am constantly tired but when it is time to lay down to sleep, for some reason I can not go to sleep. I have aches in my legs and do experience swelling from time to time.
The type of hair loss you are reporting doesn't mean you are going bald. The hair follicles are resting. This happens with hormonal changes, thyroid problems and every seven or so years when hair naturally rests. We do lose a few hundred strands of hair per day. On the head it is more obvious.
You say your TSH was normal. Normal is between .3 to 3.0. Some doctors still use an older scale where the numbers can be much higher. Thyroid is based upon how you feel, symptoms, and where in that range you are. Also, when was your last test? Have you has any other tests over the year and do the numbers look the same as now? Testing with an endocrinologist is the best way to get a handle on this. I had symptoms like you for years. Thyroid checked many times. Turned out it was something different. And then a few years later, it was the thyroid. Go figure...
I assume you get checked for having had the hysterectomy. You mentioned a 2 result. Not sure what that was referring.
