I get 4 15 mg oxycodone I R /day I'm thinking of asking to be changed to 3 10/325,s percs and only 2 of the 15,s for breakthrough pain they don't seem to last very long. Think it would be a mistake? Same mg per day just IR wear off quickly
I don't know how long your IR's go, but the 10/325's only really have a kick of 4-6 hours. If you're looking for something truly long-lasting, you should ask for something in the slow-release line of meds, like oxycontin. Each one will last somewhere closer to the 12 hour range, then you take the IR or 10/325's for breakthrough pain. If you ask for 10/325's, I'm not sure you would be improving your situation. Try explaining to the doctor your main complaint, which is that what you're taking wears off too quickly (before you start naming medications), and let them come up with the ideas. They'll know what to do - that you need something with a long half-life in comparison to what you're currently taking.
