Hey I just turned 38 last week and I have been thinking about having another baby, what concerns me is that I have had a Mirena IUD for 15 years and 4 months (yes I got it changed every 5 years). Any advice?
An IUD shouldnt prevent you from having another baby once you get it removed, even if you have used it long term. It may take a few months to start ovulating regularly again. Be sure and discuss everything with your gynecologist. Being that you are over 35, you do have some higher risks with pregnancy (like higher chance for Downs Syndrome in your infant, higher risk for problems/complications during pregnancy like blood clots, high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, etc) so be sure to discuss pro's and con's to pregnancy at this time and weigh the risks.
