I have RSD Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy and have tried everything. Nothing worked. Fentanyl was a last resort and it is the only thing that helped with the over whelming pain of RSD. I am one of those who has adverse reactions to most drugs, meds, treatments, etc. I hate being on 300mcg's every three days. Been using this stuff for over 8-9 yrs now and I am scared. I am really scared. I have never had any weird side affects or serious health probs. I have zero sex drive but thats hardly a concern. How do i cut back off this stuff without killing myself or causing serious permanent health problems. I am 54.
I understand you being scared as I too am on the patch and had my concerns in the beginning but after 9 years? If it is helpful and you are not abusing it in anyway then what are you really scared about? You need to ask yourself, do the benefits of the patch out way the risks? Can I live with the pain I will feel off the patch? If you truly want to decrease the dosage, this needs to be done very very slowly under the management of a doctor. That's crucial so there are no feelings of withdrawal. It may be possible that you can manage your pain on a lower dose and not 300mcg and not go off the patch completely. Is that something that you would be ok with?
