I take 300 mg per day of Lyrica due to extreme nerve pain in my legs post multi level lumbar fusion It helps with the pain but really effects the ability to think and remember along with instability requiring me to use a cane. I have heard that Cymbalta helps with nerve pain and wonder if anyone has taken Cymbalta for this condition? Has anyone tried a reduced dose of Lyrica combined with Cymbalta?
Here is a link for you.
I have PN because of a degenerative neuromuscular disease (dystrophy). My wonderful docs now have me on the combination of Lyrica and Cymbalta. I was able to reduce my Lyrica dosage when the Cymbalta was added. I avoid actual pain meds and try to reduce sedation by keeping my dosage low enough that my pain is manageable. Good luck with your pain management. Your stability issues (cane) could be because of the progression of the neuropathy. It's one of the symptoms.
I have tried Cymbalta but had too many bad side effects. I take Neurontin... 600 mg. 3 times a day plus I can take vicodin 2 at 3 times a day, and Tramadol up to 4 a day and muscle relaxors every 8 hours if needed. I spend time in bed when the pain is to hard to bare. I also have a therapudic mattress pad... heats in three sections with 10 levels of heat per section... I love it, it provides some comfort and I read somewhere where it can help with nerve pain.
I was on 300mg Lyrica and 60mg Cymbalta for chronic migraine headaches which has been linked to nerve pain in the skull. I've had migraines for 18yrs, I was diagnosed with them at age 5. Also, due to a complication caused by my 25+ meds (and yes Im only 23) I had severe muscle and nerve death causing me to have to grow everything back again. So with that, I decided to give Lyrica a chance (because who, with chronic pain, isn't depressed to some degree), however, I got hit with almost every side effect so I decided I needed to get off of it. I finally got off of all 300mg; 2nights ago (I've been on it since October). I was on 60mg of Cymbalta for around 3 months of that (March-May); now I take 90mg of Cymbalta everyday and I definitely do think it helps
Recently diagnosed with FibroM but also for neuropathy of every nerve in my body. She told me to come off of Tramdaol-APAP for pain because I have been on Celexa 20 mig for 1 year now. So she told me to take Cymbalta 20mg. This is day 2, I can't stop giggling at any thing and best thing my PAIN is gone!
I used to take 450MG of lyrica a day and 300MG of Cymbalta a day for nerve damage in my lower back and in both my hands. So yes I have heard of them prescribing these two medications for nerve damage and it's not uncommon. If you ever have to come of the Cymbalta just be careful because it will make you very dizzy and very unstable. I don't mean unstable on your feet I mean unstable mentally.
My husband & 2 daughters have Anxiety/Depression & switched from Wellbutrin, Paxil, to Cymbalta. They ALL had severe irritability, angry outbursts & personality changes. My youngest daughter still has permanent RLS (Restless legs syndrome) all day & night.
This is a very difficult Med because the person taking it does not see these changes. They were on it for only a few months (husband a year) & I wouldn't ever try it personally.
I too take 300mg a day in 2 doses of Lyrica. It’s been a year or so. The fog brain gradually went away; but I do walk into walls occasionally. I’m hoping that will pass too.
I’m trying to research Lyrica and Cymbalta in combination. The burning sometimes makes me a little desperate.
I see my pain doc next week and wanted to have something to show him. Good luck to you and STAY COOL.
