I have been taking Xanax for about 20 years for Anxiety/Panic Disorder. My doctor told me that the Xanax XR 1mg was equal to regular Xanax 1mg taken twice a day? I seem to be having a hard time adjusting and feel on edge with the Xanax XR. Does anyone know if this sounds correct?
It is correct as far as the amoung of the medication being introduced to your system, however, it will take some adjustment time for you to adapt to the XR, 2-3 weeks at least. Also note when putting a fact stated to you by your Dr against random feedback from the Internet can often lead to confusion, and exacerbate any trust/confidence issues that may exist between you and the Dr. If such doubt does exist, it may also be beneficial for you to consider changing physicians. These days more than ever we need to walk out of that office feeling 100% confident in the information we get from out Doctors, this was a huge issue for me at times as well.
Anyway, again, you can expect the adjustment period to take some time, but it should gradually dissipate, This is common for most folks who switch an extended release version of the same medication. Hang in there, feel free to check back any time.
Hello RenoGal, it's similar. You should be feeling better soon as it should only take a few days to adjust if even that. It all depends on the individuale and for some folks it takes approximately a week. Also some rather have xanax over the xr and vice versa, all individualized. I wish you the best. God bless
