Is it safe to take clonazepam 0.5 at this time? It's 1:20am now just want this feeling to get away. Not a good feeling have this panic attack!
1 mg of Ativan should be sufficient to thwart a panic attack. However, if you have been on the medication for more than a few months and depending on how often you take it you can build up a tolerance to it. You may want to speak with your Doctor about prescribing an SSRI for your panic attacks rather than just increasing the amount of Ativan or adding other benzodiazapines. Sertraline, in particular, has been shown to be effective in blocking panic attacks at dosages as low as 50 mg per day.
Too, if you feel a panic attack attack coming on it's best to try to get your mind off the panic attack itself. Do anything: call someone, try reading a book or watching television; or performing a chore; or deep breathing exercises or a guided meditation. The anticipatory anxiety associated around the panic attack can cause a panic attack.
Sorry you are going through this. Panic attacks are hellish. I carried Xanax around in my pocket for years before I was finally prescribed an SSRI that blocked panic attacks.
Hang in there and this will eventually pass. Take care for now.
