She was started on lovenox and Coumadin then switched to xarelto after a couple days of therapy. How long does it take for the clot to go away? Should she wear compression socks? She's flying in February should I be concerned? So many questions
Xarelto doesn't remove clots. It effects the bloods ability too clot. Lovenox does this too. Coumadin is a blood thinner. When I was in hospital I was given blood thinner and clot dissolver by drip into lines in the top of my hand and arm. I then went on Xarelto to prevent any clots from forming. My only side effect after two month is slightly bloody mucus when I blow my nose. She can’t take any NSAIDs like aspirin, Aleve, Ibuprofen for headache or pains. Check all OTC cold meds too. Only Tylenol or its generic are okay because its not a blood thinner. Any other question like socks or travel is for her doctor.
None of the anticoagulants you take at home dissolve clots. They prevent them from getting bigger. The true "clot busters" are only used in the hospital because of the chance of bleeding. It can take months to go away they will absorb gradually. . Talk to her dr before she flies. The stockings probably aren't needed. At 18 her circulation is good enough.
