Is it safe to take birth control pills if I have never had my period before? And wanting to start getting my period?
No, it would not be safe to just start birth control pills. If you are 16 years old and you have never had a period yet, you need to consult a gynecologist. They will need to check to see if there is a physical reason why you have not started yet. It may be lack of hormones, it may be something physically wrong with your uterus, ovaries or fallopian tubes and a number of other reasons. You cant just start taking birth control pills and expect that to make it all better and that you will start cycling normally. It may work but then again it may not. First of all you need to find out the reason WHY you are not having your cycles. It may just be that you are a "late bloomer" or if you are very thin, perhaps you dont have enough body fat. Our bodies require a certain amount of body fat to have a healthy baby and that is what menstruating is all about, procreation. Go and get a female exam, be diagnosed first then the gynecologist can tell you what to do to treat it, if anything. If you want birth control, talk to the gynecologist about what birth control you should use.
