If its not safe... what should I use except condoms, for pregnancy prevention?? And the thing is I started using the pill a week after my periods... is it still effective??
If you are taking the Pill perfectly, meaning every single day at the same time of day, you have a less than 1% chance of pregnancy. When you take pills late or miss pills, that affects the rate of protection making it go down but even with occasional late or missed pills they are still pretty effective but no birth control is 100% effective with no way can you get pregnant. Sex is not a game, it is serious and has serious consequences and so you must protect yourself but also you must be ready to deal with those consequences if something happens and you end up being the unlucky 1% person who gets pregnant anyway. The ONLY way to be 100% certain that you dont get pregnant is to NOT have sex! The next best thing is to use contraception and follow the directions to a tee. By following direction perfectly, there is a very teeny tiny chance of becoming pregnant but you can be fairly certain to be protected from pregnancy. It is best to start the Pill on the day you start your period but you can start it later and it is still effective but you must give it time to work. It is not magic after all. The manufacturer of the Pill says to wait a week (7 days) and after that week of active pills, you are considered "protected" Some Drs are a little more conservative and prefer that you wait an entire cycle (1 pack) so it depends on who you trust but if it has been 10 days, you are probably okay to have sex without a condom and not get pregnant. Remember also, if you miss a pill, you take the missed pill as soon as you remember and use condoms again (or abstain) for seven days after. Also antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills so condoms MUST be used as back up protection, preferably condoms and spermicide, the entire time you are on antibiotics and for seven full days after you finish them or you could become pregnant.
