My son is on 20 mg of celexa and just started Latuda 120mg i do not want my kid gorked out! He has SPD, and ADD the ADD will cause kids(mainly boys) yo have anxiety and anger. I am picking him up from school everyday! so i who usually WILL NOT put my child on an not approved for children med am trying this! My biggest concern is i did read the WHOLE insert, and he can not afford to lose weight, also the high high dose he is on.. What should I do? Im a single parent, he is happy today, but is that worth the side effects he may suffer? Sudden death?? I love my child I will take him off of all meds for the summer as he does not melt down at home, so what would you do?

also my child is on straterra 60 mg for the add, and I just called his doctor because yes my child is so happy its fantastic! HOWEVER, how about if we try 60 mg and see if we can achieve the same results? I have read all of your entries and most of you , who are all adults are on 20-80 mg only 1 person was on 120 and they were hearing voices, something my child doesn't hear, so the Doctor said that's fine so ill let you know how the 60 mg works! Also if you read the package insert you know this drug only had a 6 weeks study, so after 6 weeks they have no idea what will happen especially on a growing brain. But I know my doctor laughed when I mentioned Marinol, a pill that's been around since the 90's and i personally know how effective it is! So why would one tried and true not be okay , but one that's only barely a year old be just right? I don't understand the mental health field in regards to its practices on our children. I only have you adults to tell me what side effects you have had, if you felt your symptoms at age 10 and how you think it would have made you feel, and how you would have like your mom putting you on this kind of medicine?

Latuda is recommended for only 6 weeks without re-evaluation. Major issues are among dementia patients, mostly elderly women.
The drug is normally prescribed for schizophrenia and is an anti-psychotic.
Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established"
That one surprised me. Also, the dosage, 120 mg, is the highest available.
So far I have only presented facts. My opinion is that you talk to your son's psychiatrist about this in detail. I am sure (s)he has a good reason for prescribing this medication, but from the clinical studies and other details, I am not understanding.
I am not a doctor, I can only do research and tell you what I find. Please talk to your son's doctor.
We went back to the doctors today only to be asked by the doctor, "are you sure it was 120 mg and not 20 mg?" I was shocked and unsettled by this, I have 1 child and 1 responsibility, him! he sees 100's and of-course im sure!! and that he would'nt have rechecked what either he grabbed or the sample that was given to him ,knowing I don't want my child on a non approved drug for kids and was weary! So over the course of one week and right after writing the top question I cut the pill in half and only gave him that! i must admit it Works EXCELLENT!!! i have my child back the happy one not the 80 yer old grouchy man hidden in my 10 yr old sons body! I cried when i heard him LAUGHING with his friends, something I realized when it happened that I hadn't heard it years!! So we have lowered the dose to 40 mg, and we shall see if it continues to work, i was so skeptical, and all of my fears of side effects are not yet at bay, but I must tell you it works for a kid who has SPD, ADD, and EI.. Good Luck to everyone!! and thanks for the support!
pS we have stopped the Celexa too because how do i know whats working when they were both given within a week of each other.. the less medicine that can do the most effective job is my theory.
