I am 26 years old and have been on a 10-30mg dosage of prednisone consistently for 7 years. I have Erythema Nodosum and it works great at getting rid of that for the time, but after reading up lots on side effects people are experiencing with their bones, and hair loss, its making me nervous. How long will it take for me to start experiencing problems with my bones? I already experience the hair loss, anxiety, extreme fatigue, mood swings.
Unfortunately, there is no direct timetable when it comes to experience bone problems due to taking prednisone for 7 yrs.
Just because you have experienced some of the more common side effects with prednisone doesn't mean you'll experience the more serious side effects.
I too take prednisone daily however, despite the possible side effects I try not to focus on the negative side effects.
Instead I rely on the experience and knowledge of my physician. If my doctor prescribes a medication I know it's because she believes the benefits out way the "possible" negative side effects.
As difficult as it is try to continue to focus on the benefits of the prednisone.
Finally, discuss with your doctor your concerns about the possible long term side effects.
Make sure your doctor is aware of your fears with this medication.
I agree with Michelle as if it is helping you with your problem and has so well for 7 years then I would focus on that and how fortunate you are that it is helps you for so long and continue to think that way not all worried about what it might do in the future live for today personally I am looking into this subject pertaining to do another problem for my dad but I have an illness that is untreatable. I suffer daily and I would feel so fortunate if I found something that help me for 7 years I wouldn't even think about the future live for today hun and know how lucky you are
