Is it safe to take both of them together? I have a phobia with new medicines.
I would take each one exactly as prescribed and see how that works for you. I also take Xanax and 13 other meds so it would be confusing NOT to take a few w/ other meds. I cannot say I have noticed any problems doing that when necessary. I take a stronger dose than you are on and still, no problems. Everyone not the same, so whatever you decide, don't read too much into possibilities, but be aware of how you are feeling - better, worse, same. This kind of info can help your doctor if a change needs to be made. Take Care, and best wishes, Chelle
Like ChelleKay I too take a combination of benzodiazepine & class two narcotics.
It's critical that you take your medications, new and old as prescribed. This might sound corny but until you feel the full effects of both medication together be careful. Be aware of what your doing & the level of both medication you have in you system at all times.
Furthermore, because alcohol is also a CNS depressant I would ask your doctor if you can drink alcohol?
Lastly, until you know the full effects of both meds you might keep a notepad of what meds you took, the time of day you took the them and how they made you feel. For example did the combination of Xanax & pain meds work solely on the pain and anxiety or did they also make you feel somewhat loopy too?
Hope all goes well
carr54; Yes they use this combination often, But if you have not taken the two together it is always a good Idea to leave 1/2 to 1 hour between them so it does not hit your system all at once. and also just as the other post said when filling your prescription this is a great time to ask the pharmacist. or as the doctor is giving it to you. have a good day
I asked the pharmacist the same thing, as I am on 10mg oxycodone, methocarbamol and use Xanax when I fly. They said I should be fine taking them but there is always a risk of respiratory issues, so they suggested trying to leave about 3 hours between pills. But as I take oxycodone for chronic pain sometimes I have to take the Xanax around the same time and haven't had issues, but to be safe try to space them out.
I also agree with talking to the pharmacist, they can give you great info that is the most accurate.
