I have been having mild anxiety/panic on and off for the last month and a half and was only taking st. johns wort but it did not really help and had to finally ask my doctor for something that would calm me down, however I do not feel I need a high dose, just a little bit of help so I'm not tense, nervous, sad and upset, specially at work. Can anyone help? relate? I'm also afraid of addiction, I've never been addicted to anything but it still makes me a bit uneasy thinking that I would need this long term.
Hi Abby, yes, xanax in that dose will allay your panic and anxiety. It can be addictive, yet in this girl's opinion it's addictive because it works. Benzodiazapines have a great potential for abuse, so lock those babies up if you've a safe or a special place to keep them. You must keep them away from anyone that has a history of addiction.
IF you use your medicine as your doctor has directed you will be fine and you'll feel much better.
Benzo's (that is the name of the class of drugs that xanax falls into) are supposed to be used for a short time period, like a few weeks, but some people have taken them for years with no negative effects, no need to increase dosage, etc. Fear not any addiction, (unless you have been an addict) for you need xanax for the time being.
Best wishes and I truly hope you are feeling better soon!
Hello AbbeyCA, & welcome to the site. It almost sounds like you don't like your job? Or ae having some problems while there since this only seems as ou say at work. The xanax may help, but please do not take it while on St. Johns Wort. I am giving you a link to read about this. the St. johns wort can render the xanax as inactive or shorten it's life span. Always tell your doctor of any supplements you take when taking prescribed medications. Wishing you well...
Thank you everyone, so I spoke to a former psychologist today and he told me that I will probably need a combo of anxiety and depression medication also since I've had feelings os sadness and loss of appetite and lost 7 pounds in a month without even trying ( I was trying for the longest time to lose ten pounds but not like this lol) anyway, I am still able to somewhat funtion at work, thank god, and I try to stay positive around my husband and kids because it is not their fault I feel this way, I have just been under a lot of stress since my job was selling the site I work at and there was no job available for me; which I think thats what initially brought in the anxiety and depression; my husband has a job abd he tells me not to worry so much that we will manage, but it is easier said tha done, I wish I could control myself without medication but I was only able to feel ok every other week and now my body it's just tired of trying to stay in control,
faking to be happy definitely takes a toll... does anyone know of a med that can help both(anxiety & minor depression) with minor side effects? A former coworker todl me ativan works great for her anxiety and does not give her depression at all, but I dont know much else about it. Today is only my second day taking the xanax and I still feel jittery and a bit worried, it did not help as I thought...
