WAX-O-SOL (hexamethyltetracosane) is a saturated hydrocarbon of animal derivation, completely miscible with cerumen and other oils, fats, and waxes of the skin. It is colorless, odorless, stable and inert, and is miscible with vegetable and mineral oils, organic solvents and lipophilic substances.

Wax-O-Sol 25% Indications

WAX-O-SOL is intended as a cleansing agent for ears in dogs and cats. It facilitates proper otoscopic examination and permits more intimate contact between a therapeutic agent and a cleansed ear canal.

Mode Of Action

WAX-O-SOL is a solubilizing and cleansing agent, freely miscible with cerumen, as well as other oils, fats, and waxes of the skin. It relies on its physical action for its cleaning effect. WAX-O-SOL is non-irritating and non-allergenic.

Administration And Dosage

Routine Examination Of The Ear Canal

Before proceeding with a general examination of the patient, a dropperful of WAX-O-SOL is placed in the ear and the ear canal is gently massaged. A pledget of cotton in the ear will help retain the WAX-O-SOL and keep the animal from shaking it from the canal. Usually within 2 to 3 minutes or after the veterinarian completes his/her general examination of the animal, the ear is cleaned with a pledget of cotton and otoscopic examination is greatly enhanced.

Cleansing The Ear As An Adjunct To Treatment Of Seborrheic Otitis And Otitis External

A dropperful of WAX-O-SOL is instilled in the ear canal and the canal is gently massaged. Any debris brought to the surface is gently removed with a pledget of cotton. Treatment is administered 1 to 3 times daily and may be repeated for several days if necessary. Specific therapy may then be instituted in a properly cleansed ear canal.
