Veta-Lac Dosage And Administration

Preparing VETA-LAC® liquid - For Orphan Animals: In preparing liquid formulas, always use clean utensils and clean water. It is desirable to use sterile water, but not absolutely necessary. VETA-LAC® is manufactured under sanitary conditions. Careless use with dirty utensils and impure water will limit its value and effectiveness.

Method Number 1: Place three (3) level measures of VETA-LAC® into a clean, dry container. Add clean, very warm water to 225 mL (8 fluid oz., 1/2 pint, or 1 cup). Shake well, or stir or beat thoroughly. The mixture may be stored in a covered container and under refrigeration for several days. Emulsification of fats is improved and only brief mixing is needed just before feeding.

Method Number 2: Add one (1) volume of medium to firmly packed VETA-LAC® to three (3) volumes of clean, very warm water in a clean container and mix briefly. Allow the mixture to stand for approximately 30 minutes. Then agitate the VETA-LAC® liquid mixture vigorously by beating or shaking. Store the mixture in a covered container and refrigerate. Improved fat emulsification will result. Only brief mixing prior to feeding is necessary.

Feeding Liquid VETA-LAC® - For Orphan Animals: For orphans feed either one of the liquid VETA-LAC® mixtures described above. Feed young puppies and kittens whenever they are hungry, but avoid overfeeding. Feed from a dropper or small nipple bottle. Experience will soon tell you how much and how often to feed VETA-LAC®. It is not necessary to feed young animals warm liquid VETA-LAC®. It may be fed either at body temperature or refrigerator temperature, but avoid sudden changes or wide variations in temperature.

Strong puppies and kittens should normally be fed six (6) times during each 24 hours (weak or very small animals should be fed every 2 hours) for the first few days. The number of feedings may be reduced to four (4) times every 24 hours by the end of the first week.

By the third or fourth week feeding three (3) times per day is usually sufficient. At this time, puppies and kittens should be eating from a bowl and a small amount of dry meal can be added to liquid VETA-LAC® to make a gruel-like mixture.

Gradually decrease the amount of VETA-LAC® being fed and increase the amount of regular ration. This change from all liquid VETA-LAC® feeding to the regular ration should be made in not less than two (2) to three (3) weeks. For the best results, continue to feed small or supplemental amounts of VETA-LAC® after weaning. See directions under Dry Feeding VETA-LAC® - Dietary Supplementation.

Note: The liquid VETA-LAC® mixture (3 level measures to make 225 mL or 1/2 pint of liquid) may be fed effectively to aged animals to furnish protein, carbohydrates and energy with less than normal roughage. Feed as directed by a veterinarian.

Feeding Liquid VETA-LAC® - For Adult Dogs and Cats: Place three (3) level measures of VETA-LAC® into a clean, dry container. Add clean, very warm water to 337.5 mL (12 fluid oz., 3/4 pint, or 1 1/2 cups). Cover the container and shake well or agitate by mixing or stirring thoroughly. This mixture may be allowed to stand under cover and refrigeration for several days. Prior to feeding, only brief mixing is needed.

Feed this VETA-LAC® liquid mixture as you would whole milk. Do not overfeed.

Dry Feeding VETA-LAC® - Dietary Supplementation - For Dogs and Cats (See Table of Recommendations): Sprinkle dry VETA-LAC over regular or canned feeds in amounts shown below:

Dogs:

Small Breeds - one (1) measure*

Medium Breeds - three (3) measures

Large Breeds - six (6) measures

Cats: One (1) measure

*One (1) level measure contains approximately 15 g VETA-LAC®.

Note: VETA-LAC® may be topdressed, mixed with dry feed or mixed with water.

General Recommendations:

Feeding VETA-LAC®: VETA-LAC® is a concentrated and dry milk dietary formula. When VETA-LAC® formula is mixed with the recommended amounts of clean water, it will furnish all of the protein, fat, carbohydrate, vitamin, mineral and energy requirements of newborn puppies and kittens. VETA-LAC® is readily utilized and easily assimilated by both very young and aged animals.

The packaging of VETA-LAC® aids in both preserving nutrient quality and preventing waste during feeding. It cannot be emphasized too strongly that young animals should receive clean and adequate food, but they should not be overfed.

Dry Feeding VETA-LAC® - For normal level and high level supplementation:

Normal level VETA-LAC® formula supplementation is for vitamin, mineral and other nutrient fortification in normal adult animals, especially during pregnancy.

Give 2.2 g of VETA-LAC® a day for each kg (1 g per lb.) of body weight.

High level VETA-LAC® formula supplementation is for vitamin, mineral and other nutrient fortification in lactating mothers, growing or undernourished animals and show animals.

Give 4.4 g of VETA-LAC® a day for each kg (2 g per lb.) of body weight.

VET-LAC® Reducing Diets: VETA-LAC® is highly successful for use in reducing diets of overweight adult animals. Diets formulated with VETA-LAC®, and with or without meat, can be designed to reduce the caloric intake and furnish adequate levels of all essential nutrients. VET-A-MIX will furnish general recommendations upon request, but it is suggested that a qualified veterinarian be consulted. Certain diseases may alter requirements. For example, heart disease may indicate the need for a low-sodium diet.
