Tuberculin Ot

This treatment applies to the following species:
Manufacturer: Synbiotics

mammalian, Human Isolates, Intradermic

description

TUBERCULIN OT Mammalian, Human Isolates, Intradermic is prepared from culture filtrates of Mycobacterium tuberculosis (strain Pn, C, and Dt) which are heat-inactivated and concentrated to 40% of their original volume by evaporation. The cultures are grown on a synthetic media and tested in accordance with U.S.D.A. requirements.

Tuberculin OT Indications

For intradermal testing of cattle, goats, swine and non-human primates for mammalian tuberculosis.

Equipment

Intradermic TUBERCULIN syringes graduated in hundredths of ml and equipped with a 26 gauge needle, 3/8 inch in length. The needle should be cleaned with alcohol and dried before each use.

Directions

Intradermic Test: For cattle and goats, inject 0.1 ml between the superficial layers of the caudal fold skin; cattle 2 1/2 inches, goats 1 inch distal to the base of the tail. For swine, inject 0.1 ml into the skin on the upper surface of the ear. Care should be exercised to ensure that the point of the needle does not penetrate through the skin.

For non-human primates, follow the procedures recommended in the current “Laboratory Animal Management; Non-human Primates” National Academy Press or equivalent.

If the skin is clean, it is not necessary to disinfect or otherwise clean the surface. Soiled skin should be cleaned with cotton, either dry or moistened with 50% alcohol. Strong disinfectants must not be applied near the injection site. Care must be taken to ensure that all traces of alcohol are removed from both the injection site and needle prior to each injection. This is necessary to avoid any inflammation from the disinfectant which might be mistaken for a reaction.

A positive reaction is indicated by an induration (swelling) of the skin at the site of injection. The test should be interpreted at 72 ± 6 hours by palpation and observation.

Tuberculin OT Cautions
