This treatment applies to the following species:Sterile Injectable
For Veterinary Use Only.
DIN 02237464
Long Acting Oxytetracycline Injection.
Description
Tetraject LA injectable solution is a unique formulation containing 200 mg oxytetracycline base per mL. It provides sustained antibiotic blood levels over a 3 to 4 day period in cattle and pigs following a single treatment. Tetraject LA is a sterile, clear, stable, ready to-use solution. The freezing point of Tetraject LA injectable solution is below -18°C. Laboratory studies indicate that this product readily flows through a 16 gauge needle at 2°C.
Sustained Antibiotic Action
Oxytetracycline has long been recognized as being effective for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases caused by susceptible gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Tetraject LA injectable solution was designed specifically to provide sustained antibiotic blood levels over a 3 to 4 day period following a single treatment to avoid the necessity of daily injections.
The inherent and unique composition of the formulation results in less tissue damage than would occur with formulations which allow more drug to precipitate at the injection site.
Tetraject LA Indications
Cattle
For the treatment of bacterial pneumonia and pasteurellosis (associated with the shipping fever complex) caused or complicated by bacteria susceptible to oxytetracycline, infectious bovine keratoconjunctivitis (pink-eye) caused by Moraxella bovis and foot rot.Swine
For the treatment of bacterial pneumonia caused or complicated by bacteria susceptible to oxytetracycline.Tetraject LA Dosage And Administration
Tetraject LA injectable solution is designed for intramuscular administration at the single dose rate of 1 mL/10 kg body weight, thus providing 20 mg oxytetracycline / kg body weight. Intramuscular injections should be made deep into the fleshy part of the muscle.
To minimize pain and local tissue irritation at the injection site in cattle, it is recommended that the dose be divided and administered into separate injection sites; no more than 10 mL should be injected into any one site.
For young pigs of less than 10 kg body weight, it is recommended that they receive a dose of 1 mL/animal. For pigs up to 100 kg body weight, the dose may be injected in one site, but for pigs over 100 kg body weight, the dose should be administered into 2 injection sites.
If clinical improvement is not observed within 48 to 72 hours following injection, the diagnosis should be re-evaluated.
Note
In cases of severe disease, treatment with Tetraject LA injectable solution alone may be insufficient.
Warning
Treated animals must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 28 days after the latest treatment with this drug. This product must not be used in lactating dairy cattle.
Tetraject LA Caution
No more than 10 mL of Tetraject LA to be injected into any one site. Occasional sensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis) to oxytetracycline have been known to occur. In such cases, administer epinephrine immediately.
Due to the high concentration and long-acting effect, temporary localized swelling at the injection site may be observed for up to 5 days following the injection.
Warm Tetraject LA injectable solution to body temperature before administering.
Storage
Do not store above 30°C. Protect from freezing (below -18°C).
