Quadrisol 100 is a palatable gel for oral administration to horses. One mL gel contains 100 mg vedaprofen, a potent non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic and non-narcotic analgesic activities. The product is available in a 30 mL syringe which is fitted with variable-dose capacity adjustable in steps of 0.5 mL and graduated to 1 mL.
INDICATIONS
For the control of inflammation and relief of pain associated with musculo-skeletal disorders and soft tissue lesions (traumatic injuries and surgical trauma) in horses. In cases of surgical trauma, Quadrisol 100 can be given prophylactically.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Veterinarians should follow directions carefully and dose on an accurate body weight basis. Quadrisol 100 is intended for twice daily administration. The advised dosage is an initial dose of 2 mL per 100 kg body weight (equivalent to 2 mg vedaprofen/kg body weight) followed by a dose of 1 mL per 100 kg body weight (equivalent to 1 mg vedaprofen/kg body weight) given every 12 hours. The gel is administered orally by inserting the nozzle of the syringe through the interdental space and depositing the required amount of gel on the back of the tongue. Before administration, the syringe should be adjusted to the calculated dosage by setting the ring on the plunger. Treatment can be continued for a maximum of 14 consecutive days. If a longer duration of treatment is required, a 7 day rest period is advised before resuming treatment.
PRECAUTIONS
Typical NSAID side effects such as lesions in the alimentary tract, soft faeces, urticaria and dullness can occur with Quadrisol 100. These effects are reversible. If side effects occur, treatment should be discontinued.
CONTRA-INDICATIONS
The use of Quadrisol 100 is contra-indicated in cases of impaired heart, liver or kidney function, alimentary tract disorders and just before and during parturition.
WARNING
