Pyrantel Pamoate tablets

Description

: Pyran 35 (Pyrantel Pamoate) is an anthelmintic. It is a crystalline, water insoluble, tasteless salt of tetrahydropyrimidine base and pamoic acid with the name Trans-1,4,5,tetrahydro-1-methyl-2-(2-(2-thienyl)-vinyl)-pyrimidine hydrogen pamoate. Pyrantel Pamoate formula is C11H14N2S.C23H16O6 and its molecular weight is 594.686.

MODE OF ACTION: Pyran 35 has an anthelmintic effect by interfering with the neuro-muscular function of the parasite.

Composition

Pyran 35 is available as a small orange scored tablet containing Pyrantel Pamoate equivalent to 35 mg of Pyrantel base per tablet.

Contraindications

There are no known contraindications.

Pyran 35 Tablets Caution

The same precautions should be taken with Pyran as with other cholinesterase inhibitors.

Pharmacology

The anthelmintic activity of Pyran 35 has been demonstrated in several laboratory model infections utilizing mice, rats and dogs. These tests showed the compound to be effective for the control of hookworm and roundworm infestations. Pyran 35 is poorly absorbed by the intestinal mucosa so that its activity is confined to the lumen of the bowel. In the dog the peak plasma levels were low, and similarly the tissue levels were low. Less than 15% is excreted via the urine, the major proportion of the dose being excreted in the feces.
