Neosol Drops
This treatment applies to the following species:Neomycin and Methscopolamine Bromide Drops
DIN 00555495
Veterinary Use Only
Active Ingredients
Each mL contains 50 mg of Neomycin Sulfate (equivalent to 35 mg Neomycin base) and 0.25 mg of Methscopolamine Bromide.Actions
Since the antibacterial effect of orally administered Neomycin is not diverted from the gut by absorption or inactivated by gastrointestinal secretion, bacteria, or enzymes, Neomycin is therapeutically effective in gastrointestinal infections in lower concentrations than orally administered, absorbable, systemic antibacterial agents. Neomycin is a wide spectrum antibiotic derived from Streptomyces fradiae.Neomycin sulfate is effective in vitro against Staphylococcus aureus, haemolytic streptococci, Pasteurella multocida, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella, Enterobacter aerogenes, and other gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Microorganisms do not readily develop resistance to Neomycin. Recently, resistance to Neomycin has been reported more frequently than in the past. Neomycin possesses no known anti-protozoal, antifungal or anti-viral action.
Methscopolamine bromide is an anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) agent with high selectivity or inhibitory action on the segment of the parasympathetic system concerned with the gastrointestinal tract. It reduces the secretions and the motility of the gastrointestinal tract. It also delays gastric emptying and inhibits salivary secretions and sweating. Subcutaneous injection to rats of a dose 2400 times greater than the effective antisecretory dose given intravenously produced little or no stimulation of the central nervous system. Ganglionic and myoneural blocking action in animals were manifest only with very high doses.
Neosol Drops Indications
As an aid in the treatment of bacterial diarrhea and gastrointestinal infections of dogs and cats, especially when accompanied by hypermotility and hypersecretion. It is useful and effective in treating epizootic outbreaks of infectious diarrhea caused by organisms sensitive to Neomycin. Neosol Drops is also of value as an aid in preventing enteric infections in animals known to be exposed or susceptible to organisms sensitive to Neomycin.Dosage & Administration
The recommended dosage for treatment of bacterial enteritis and diarrhea in dogs and cats is 5 mg (0.1 mL) Neomycin sulfate per 0.45 kg (1 lbs) of body weight, per day, in divided doses, every 12 hours for a duration recommended by your veterinarian. This dosage level is attained by the use of 0.5 mL of Neosol Drops per 4.54kg (10 lbs) of body weight given orally twice daily. The daily dosage may be measured as follows, using the enclosed calibrated dropper.
