MetriCideThis treatment applies to the following species:
sterilizing & disinfecting solution
A 14-Day Glutaraldehyde, Activated Dialdehyde Solution
Rapid Acting, Non-Staining, Non-Rusting
For sale in Canada only.
Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with skin, wear eye/face protection. Use only in well-ventilated area. In case of eye/skin contact, flush with water. If swallowed, drink large quantities of water.
INDICATIONS FOR USE: For use in hospitals, medical offices, dental offices, veterinary laboratories, convalescent care centers and other health care facilities. Especially recommended for sterilization or disinfection of lensed instruments, anesthesia equipment, respiratory therapy equipment, rubber objects, plastic objects, sharp instruments, thermometers, and flexible fiberoptic endoscopes.
STERILIZATION: Recommended for use on critical devices which create a high risk of infection if they are not sterile (i.e., contaminated with any organism, including spores). Critical devices routinely penetrate the skin or mucous membranes into normally sterile areas of the body, or come into direct contact with recirculating body fluids.
HIGH-LEVEL DISINFECTION: Recommended for use on semi-critical devices which contact mucous membranes during use, but do not usually penetrate normally sterile areas of the body.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE: ACTIVATION: Activate the METRICIDE solution by adding the entire contents of the Activator 14 activator vial which is attached to the METRICIDE container. Shake well. When activated, solution changes color to green. Record the date of activation on the indicated space on the label, in a log book or a label affixed to any secondary container used for the activated solution. Do not use activated solution beyond 14 days. It is recommended that METRICIDE be tested with a 1.5% glutaraldehyde indicator prior to each use. Efficacy of this product during its use-life must be verified by a 1.5% glutaraldehyde indicator to determine that the Minimum Effective Concentration (MEC) of 1.5% is present.
CLEANING/DECONTAMINATION: Blood and other body fluids must be thoroughly cleaned from hard, non-porous surfaces and objects before application of the disinfectant or sterilant. For complete disinfection or sterilization of medical instruments and equipment, thoroughly clean, rinse and rough dry objects before immersing in METRICIDE. Cleanse and rinse the lumens of hollow instruments before filling with METRICIDE.
STERILIZATION: All articles to be sterilized must be thoroughly cleaned and rough dried before placing in sterilizing solution. Completely immerse instruments in sterilizing solution for 10 hours at 25 °C. Remove instruments using aseptic technique, rinse thoroughly with sterile water, and dry.
HIGH-LEVEL DISINFECTION: All articles to be high-level disinfected must be thoroughly cleaned and rough dried before placing in disinfecting solution. Completely immerse instruments in disinfecting solution for 45 minutes at 25 °C for complete inactivation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Salmonella choleraesuis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Herpes Simplex Virus 1 & 2, Influenza A2HK, Coxsackievirus B5a, Adenovirus-2, Poliovirus 1 & 2, Rotavirus SA-11, Rhinovirus, Cytomegalovirus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus and Vaccinia Virus. Remove instruments using aseptic technique, rinse thoroughly with sterile water, or potable tap water and dry.
THE ACTIVITY OF METRICIDE AGAINST HIV-1 (HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS)
METRICIDE completely inactivates the HIV-1 virus. For contact time and temperature, refer to the “DIRECTIONS FOR USE” for sterilization or high-level disinfection, depending on the type of medical instrument. METRICIDE is intended for use against HIV-1 only where contamination by blood or body fluids is expected.
Specific Cleaning And Decontamination Procedures
Cleaning Procedure: Blood and other body fluids must be thoroughly cleaned from surfaces and objects before application of the activated METRICIDE. Personal Protection: Personnel that clean items soiled with blood or body fluids should wear appropriate barrier protection such as protective gloves (butyl rubber, nitrile rubber, polyethylene or double-gloved latex), gowns, masks, or eye coverings. Contact Time: Refer to the “DIRECTIONS FOR USE” for sterilization or high-level disinfection, depending on the type of medical instrument. Disposal of Infectious Materials: Materials that may contain blood and other body fluids should be autoclaved and disposed of according to local regulations for infectious disposal.
STORAGE AND DISPOSAL: Store in a cool, well ventilated area. Unused product may be discarded by pouring down drain and flushing with large quantity of water. Rinse empty container thoroughly and discard in trash.
PRECAUTIONARY STATEMENTS: Hazard to Humans and Domestic Animals.
DANGER: Harmful by inhalation. Irritating to eyes. Harmful if swallowed and irritating to skin. Irritating to respiratory system. May cause sensitization by skin contact. Avoid contact with skin. Instruments: Not to be used in metal trays, or as an overnight holding solution. Do not immerse carbon steel objects over 24 hours.
FIRST AID INFORMATION: In case of contact, immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. For eyes, call a physician. If swallowed, drink large quantities of water and call a physician immediately.
