MD-Vac CFL Indications
1. As an aid in the prevention of tumors characteristic of Marek's disease and other symptoms of the disease such as paralysis of extremities and formation of enlarged feather follicles, when injected subcutaneously into day-old chicks.
2. As an aid in the prevention of the cutaneous form of Marek's disease when injected subcutaneously into day-old, healthy chicks intended for broiler production.
Directions
Marek's Disease Vaccine (MD-Vac) is supplied in vials containing 1,000 doses (4,000 broiler doses). Diluent is supplied in bottles containing 200 mL and 400 mL. To use, reconstitute with Fort Dodge Animal Health Sterile Diluent only in the manner described below.
1. For healthy replacement pullets or chickens to be kept beyond 8 or 9 weeks of age, use 1,000 doses with 200 mL diluent. Inject each chick with 0.2 mL subcutaneously.
2. For healthy chicks intended for broiler production, use 1,000 doses with 400 mL diluent. Inject each chick with 0.1 mL subcutaneously.
3. Avoid early exposure of chicks to Marek's disease to allow for development of protection.
Procedure
After selecting the appropriate vaccine vial and diluent bottle as recommended above, proceed as follows:
1. Remove the centre tabs of aluminum seals on both vaccine vial and diluent bottle. Sanitize rubber stoppers with alcohol and allow to dry.
2. Using sterile needle and syringe withdraw 3 mL diluent and inject it into the vaccine vial.
3. After gentle agitation of the vial to ensure that vaccine is dissolved, invert vial and withdraw entire contents into the syringe.
4. Gently inject rehydrated vaccine into diluent bottle and gently mix well.
5. Withdraw 3 mL diluent and rinse vaccine vial. Transfer rinse back into diluent bottle and gently mix well by rotating several times. The vaccine is then ready for administration.
Administration
Sterilize all vaccinating equipment by boiling or autoclaving prior to a vaccinating session, 20-22 gauge 3/8" to 1/2" needles are recommended for hand vaccination and 20-22 gauge 1" needles for automated vaccination.
