Fowl Laryngotracheitis Vaccine is recommended for the vaccination of healthy birds. Should an outbreak of laryngotracheitis occur on the premises, immediately institute a program of vaccination of birds farthest from the infected birds and work towards the diseased birds.
Directions
Vaccinate birds when they are 4 weeks old or, if conditions dictate, birds may be vaccinated as early as 10 days of age. Revaccinate replacement birds at 16 to 20 weeks of age.
Preparation Of Vaccine
1. Remove the aluminum seal from vaccine vial.
2. Remove the rubber stopper, keeping it free from contamination, and half-fill the vaccine vial with accompanying diluent.
3. Replace stopper and shake vial to dissolve vaccine material.
4. Carefully pour the rehydrated vaccine into the plastic diluent bottle. Replace plastic diluent bottle cap and shake once again to obtain a uniform mixture.
5. Remove diluent bottle cap and fit drop dispenser into bottle. The vaccine is now ready for use.
To Vaccinate Intraocularly
1. Hold bird and place 1 drop of vaccine into the eye. Allow the vaccine to spread over the eye before releasing the bird into a holding area for vaccinated birds.
2. Vaccinate all birds.
Precautions
1. Rehydrate the vaccine outside the pens. Rehydrate 1 vial at a time and use entire contents immediately after rehydration. Do not stretch the number of doses to a larger number of birds than recommended, i.e., 1 dose per bird.
2. Vaccinate all susceptible birds on the premises at the same time.
3. Vaccinate healthy birds only.
4. A mild conjunctival reaction may occur approximately 4 days following vaccination. This occurs more often in dry, dusty houses than in well-managed quarters. Such a reaction will disappear in about 3 days.
5. Take care not to spill or splatter the vaccine. As a precautionary measure, curb traffic for 10 to 14 days between premises where birds have been vaccinated and areas where there are unvaccinated, susceptible birds.
Warning
Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
