Also contains non-medicinal ingredients: carbomer, disodium edetate, mannitol, sodium hydroxide and water for injection.

Therapeutic Classification

Fusidic acid is an antibiotic.

Fucithalmic Vet Eye Gel Indications

Fucithalmic® Vet Eye Gel is indicated for the treatment of conjunctivitis in dogs caused by pathogenic strains of Staphylococci spp. sensitive to fusidic acid.

Fucithalmic Vet Eye Gel Dosage And Administration

Instill one drop into the eye once or twice a day. Continue treatment for 48 hours after the eye has returned to normal. If the dog has one infected eye, it may be advisable to treat both eyes to prevent cross infection. In such cases it is better to treat the uninfected eye first in order to avoid transferring infection via the tube nozzle. If a clinical response is not evident within 5 days, the diagnosis should be re-established by the treating veterinarian. Prior to administration, pus and debris should be removed from the corners and surroundings of the eye with a piece of cotton wool moistened with warm water or a ready made eye lotion. The dog should be appropriately restrained with the head held firmly in a slightly raised position. Pull the lower eyelid down, instill 1 drop of Fucithalmic® Vet Eye Gel into the lower conjunctival sac, and then release the eyelid.

Contra-indications

Do not use for eye infections caused by non-susceptible organisms, especially Pseudomonas spp. or if hypersensitivity to fusidic acid or any of the other ingredients is know. Discontinue use if hypersensitivity to the product develops.

Fucithalmic Vet Eye Gel Cautions

Do not use the same tube to treat different dogs. Take care to avoid contamination of the contents during use and to avoid the nozzle coming into direct contact with the eye. Frequent ocular re-examination is recommended during long term therapy. Replace the screw cap immediately after use, avoid touching the nozzle. Wash hands after applying the product.

Warning

Keep out of reach of children.

Other Information

Fusidic acid, the active component of Fucithalmic® Vet Eye Gel, exerts antibacterial action by interfering with bacterial protein synthesis. Fusidic acid exhibits in vitro activity against a number of Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci. Almost all strains of Staphylococci including penicillinase-producing strains, demonstrate in vitro sensitivity to fusidic acid. Staphylococcus aureus and in particular, Staphylococcus intermedius, which are responsible for the majority of external eye infections in dogs and humans, are both sensitive to fusidic acid in vitro. The slow-release formulation of Fucithalmic® Vet Eye Gel results in prolonged retention within the conjunctival sac. Thus a single application provides inhibitory levels of fusidic acid against sensitive organisms over a period of 24 hours.
