Fowl Pox Vaccine Live Virus

U.s. Vet. Lic. No.

279

Contents

This vaccine contains live fowl pox virus.

Contains Gentamicin as a bacteriostatic agent.

Notice: Merial Select's vaccines have met the requirements of the USDA in regard to safety, purity, potency, and the capability to protect susceptible chickens. This vaccine has been tested by the Master Seed immunogenicity test for efficacy.

FP-Blen Indications

This vaccine is for the vaccination of healthy chickens between four and sixteen weeks of age, but no later than four weeks before egg production by wing web stab as an aid in the prevention of fowl pox. Fowl pox vaccine will cause a drop in production if birds are vaccinated while they are in production.

This vaccine is recommended for the protection of healthy chickens. It is essential that the chickens be maintained under good environmental conditions and that exposure to disease viruses be reduced as much as possible.

FP-Blen Dosage And Administration

Wing Web Method: Ten (10) mL of diluent is supplied for each 1,000 doses of vaccine.

1. Pull up on the plastic tear-flip-up top to remove the aluminum seal from the bottle containing the lyophilized vaccine. Carefully pry up one edge of the rubber stopper to permit air to replace the vacuum in the bottle, then remove the stopper.

2. Pull up on the plastic tear-flip-up top to remove the aluminum seal from the bottle containing the diluent and transfer the entire contents to the bottle containing the lyophilized vaccine. Replace the stopper and shake the contents vigorously a few times until the vaccine is evenly suspended. The vaccine is now ready for use. Wash hands thoroughly after mixing the vaccine.

3. The vaccine is applied to the web of the wing using the two-pronged applicator supplied in the package. Avoid stabbing through feathers which may wipe off the vaccine.

4. The applicator is designed to carry the proper amount of vaccine in the grooves of the needles. The needle should be touched briefly to the inner lip of the bottle before withdrawing to avoid waste of the vaccine which may drop from the needles. Dip the applicator before each application.

Check for Takes: At about seven to ten days after vaccination, the birds may be examined for takes. A good take reaction, indicating that a satisfactory vaccination job was done, shows swelling of the skin at the point of vaccination with scab formation. The scabs will fall off about two to three weeks following vaccination. Good immunity to fowl pox is established two to three weeks after vaccination.

If good takes are not seen, it may mean that the birds were immune to fowl pox, that the vaccination was poor or that the vaccine used had lost its potency through extended storage or mishandling.

Precaution(s)

Improper storage or handling of the vaccine may result in loss of potency. Store vaccine at 35-45°F (2-7°C). Do not freeze. Use entire vial contents when first opened. Burn this container and all unused contents.

Do not spill or splatter the vaccine. Burn all vaccine containers, used applicators, and unused vaccine when the vaccination is completed.

This vaccine is non-returnable.

FP-Blen Caution(s)

All birds on a farm should be vaccinated at one time, or if not, the vaccinated groups should be segregated from the non-vaccinated birds.

Mix the vaccine outside the poultry pens to avoid dangers involved in accidental spilling.

Mix only one vial of vaccine at a time and use promptly. Use all at one time and do not stretch the dosage.

This vaccine is prepared for the vaccination of healthy birds. Improper handling or administration may result in variable responses.

The capability of this vaccine to produce satisfactory results depends upon many factors, including - but not limited to - conditions of storage and handling by the user, administration of the vaccine, health and responsiveness of individual chickens, and degree of field exposure. Therefore, directions for use should be followed carefully. The use of this vaccine is subject to applicable state and federal laws and regulations.

Warning(s)

Do not vaccinate within 21 days of slaughter.
