Double-Action Hoof Treatment Concentrate

This treatment applies to the following species:
Manufacturer: DeLaval

For the Prevention & Treatment of Foot Warts in Dairy

Active Ingredients: Contains Quaternary Ammonium Compound

Directions for Use:

DO NOT USE FULL STRENGTH. DILUTE AS DIRECTED BELOW.

Read and follow label carefully. Apply Double-Action® as directed. Consult a veterinarian for proper diagnosis of lameness before using this product. For best results, use this product as part of a complete hoof care program. Cleanliness of hoof prior to treatment and frequent application with fresh solution may accelerate the healing process.

Footbath Dilution:

Footbath dilutions are intended to treat 200 cows, after which it is recommended that the footbath solution be discarded and replaced with a fresh Double-Action® footbath solution. Mix thoroughly 1 gallon (3.8 liters) of Double-Action® Concentrate with every 49 gallons (185.5 liters) of water used in the footbath. Repeat as directed to maintain a fresh solution. Cows should be exposed to Double-Action® footbaths as outlined in the chart below. For best results a maintenance program should be implemented and followed - see below.

Dairy Housing Conditions

Prevalence of Disease

Footbath Exposure Rate

Heavily Soiled Conditions

High Lesion Prevalence

(>15% of herd is afflicted)

1 to 2 times per day for 7 consecutive days

Note: This exposure rate is recommended for crowded housing conditions, or as a biosecurity measure if bought cows are continually entering the herd.

Moderately Soiled Conditions

Medium to High Lesion Prevalence

(10-15% of herd is afflicted)

1 to 2 times per day for 5 consecutive days

Good Housing Conditions

Low to Medium Lesion Prevalence

(0-10% of herd is afflicted)

1 to 2 times per day for 3 consecutive days

Note: This exposure rate is recommended for lesion prevention.

Spray-on Application:

Before milking, rinse hooves thoroughly to remove mud and manure. After a topical solution of Double-Action® has been prepared, thoroughly saturate each hoof and heel of cow. Repeat 2 times per day for 14 days, or as needed. More frequent applications may be required. For best results a maintenance program should be implemented and followed. For topical spray application, follow these directions: For spray bottle applicators, mix 1.5 ounces (44.4 milliliters) of Double-Action® per quart (0.95 liters) of water used. For garden-type sprayers, mix 6.5 ounces (192 milliliters) of Double-Action® per gallon (3.8 liters) of water used.

Maintenance Program:

Read and follow the label as directed. For foot wart control, foot bathing or spray applications should occur on a weekly basis year ’round for all cows. After initial treatment has been completed as directed above, evaluate cows for foot wart prevalence. Begin a Double-Action maintenance foot bathing or spray program of 3 footbaths/applications (minimum) per week or as needed. Exposure to footbaths or spray applications should be increased if heifers or purchased cows continually enter the milking herd, or during times of inclement weather. If freezing temperatures restrict use of footbaths, switch to spray applications. Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) available from your dealer.
