A Long Acting Antibiotic.
DERAPEN SQ/LA is specifically formulated to provide sustained antibacterial activity in cattle and pigs following a single administration.
DERAPEN SQ/LA is a sterile, long acting stable suspension for parenteral administration containing Procaine Penicillin Ph. Eur. equivalent to 300 mg Procaine Penicillin G per mL.
DERAPEN SQ/LA offers the advantage of combining antibacterial effectiveness, with prolonged antibiotic blood levels following a single treatment, thereby reducing the number of injections required in a course of penicillin therapy.
Derapen SQ/LA Indications
DERAPEN SQ/LA is indicated for use in cattle and pigs for the treatment of the following infections caused by bacteria susceptible to penicillin:
CATTLE: Bacterial pneumonia; calf diphtheria; footrot; metritis; wound infections.
SWINE: Bacterial pneumonia; erysipelas; wound infections.
Derapen SQ/LA Dosage And Administration
CATTLE: DERAPEN SQ/LA may be administered by either the subcutaneous or intramuscular route of administration to non-lactating cattle. Do not exceed 15 mL per injection site.
SWINE: DERAPEN SQ/LA may be administered by intramuscular route only. Do not exceed 10 mL per injection site.
The recommended dose rate is 20 mg procaine penicillin per kg body weight, equivalent to 1 mL per 15 kg bodyweight. If necessary, a second dose may be administered after 72 hours.
NoteIf animals do not respond within 48 hours of administration of the first dose, consult a veterinarian. An alternative antibacterial therapy should be considered.
Shake well before using.
Derapen SQ/LA Caution
Contra-indicated in known cases of hypersensitivity to penicillin.
In case of anaphylactic reaction (acute respiratory distress, mouth breathing, recumbency), administer epinephrine immediately to prevent death.
In pigs, the administration of this product may occasionally cause a fever, vomiting, shivering, listlessness, incoordination and possibly, death. In pregnant sows and gilts, it may result in abortions.
Do not administer to lactating dairy cattle.
Treated cattle must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 14 days after the latest treatment with this drug.
Treated cattle must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 21 days after the latest treatment with this drug.
Treated pigs must not be slaughtered for use in food for at least 10 days after the latest treatment with this drug.
Store between 15 - 30°C. Do not freeze.
DERAPEN SQ/LA is available in multi-dose vials of 100 mL, 250 mL and 500 mL.
