Continuum Feline Hcp
This treatment applies to the following species:feline Rhinotracheitis-calici-panleukopenia Vaccine
modified Live Virus
non-adjuvanted
For Use in Cats Only
Product Description: Continuum® Feline Hcp Is A Modified Live Virus Vaccine Containing Attenuated Strains Of Feline Rhinotracheitis Virus (frv), Calicivirus (fcv), And Panleukopenia Virus (fpv). continuum® Feline Hcp Is Presented In A Desiccated Form With Sterile Diluent Provided For Reconstitution. The Attenuated Virus Strains Used In continuum® Feline Hcp Are Strains Of Feline Origin. continuum® Feline Hcp Is Produced With High-titered Components That Are Immunogenic.
indications
For the vaccination of healthy cats for the prevention of disease due to feline panleukopenia virus, as an aid in the prevention of disease due to feline calicivirus, and as an aid in the control of disease due to feline rhinotracheitis virus for three years following initial and booster vaccinations.Safety Data
Safety testing has demonstrated that the components of CONTINUUM® Feline HCP are safe when given to kittens as young as 8 weeks of age.Efficacy Data
Seronegative kittens, vaccinated at 8 and 12 weeks of age, were held in strict isolation for 3 years (36 months) following the last vaccination and then challenged with virulent FCV, FRV, and FPV. Serum antibody titers for FCV, FRV, and FPV were measured throughout the isolation period. The geometric mean antibody titers (GMT) for FCV and FPV remained at high levels throughout the isolation period.Table 1. Geometric Mean Titers (GMT) Following Second Vaccination

At 36 months post vaccination, the GMT for FCV was ≥ 1:2416, for FRV was 1:2, and for FPV was ≥ 1:4096. Thirty-six months following vaccination, cats were randomly assigned to 1 of 2 groups. Group 1 cats (n=22) were challenged sequentially with virulent FRV (SGE strain, oro-nasal challenge) and FPV (ICK strain, intraperitoneal challenge). Group 2 cats (n=20) were challenged sequentially with virulent FCV (Strain 255, oro-nasal challenge) and FRV (SGE strain, intranasal challenge). For each virus challenge, 10 age-matched, nonvaccinated control cats were also challenged. Control cats were not challenged sequentially. Following FRV and FCV challenge, all cats were monitored daily for two weeks after challenge for the development of clinical signs. All cats were evaluated using a clinical signs scoring system. Following FPV challenge, all cats were monitored daily for two weeks after challenge for the development of clinical signs and leukopenia.
Fcv Challenge
Severe clinical signs of FCV, including fever, ocular and nasal discharge, and oral, lingual, and nasal ulcers, were seen in 100% of the control cats from day 5 through day 10 post challenge. In the vaccinated cats, 15/20 developed mild fevers of short duration (≤ 2 days) following challenge. Two of the twenty vaccinated cats developed slight ocular discharge of short duration (≤ 2 days). No oral, lingual, or nasal ulcers were observed in any of the vaccinated cats. Overall, similar results have been reported for FCV challenge in vaccinated cats where vaccination against FCV reduces the severity and duration of clinical signs following challenge.(1) (2) (3)Table 2. Frv Challenge
Following challenge, all cats exhibited clinical signs of FRV (including fever, dehydration, depression, ocular and nasal discharge, sneezing, dyspnea, salivation, and oral, lingual, and nasal ulceration). The severity of clinical signs was significantly greater in control cats versus vaccinated cats following challenge (p=0.005). Similar results have been reported for FRV challenge in vaccinated cats where vaccination against FRV reduces the severity and duration of clinical signs following challenge.(1) (2) (3)Table 3. Fpv Challenge
For the FPV challenge, 2 control groups were used to evaluate the severity of the challenge. These included 10 seronegative age-matched control cats and 10 seronegative, 10-12-week-old kittens. Kittens were challenged in addition to the age-matched adults, since older cats are more resistant to challenge. Following intraperitoneal challenge, clinical signs of FPV were not observed in any cat. Leukopenia (WBC < 4000 WBC/mm3) was measured in 100% of the nonvaccinated age-matched and 10-12-week-old control cats. Leukopenia was not demonstrated in any vaccinated cat.Table 4. Fpv Challenge

The results of these studies demonstrate that the modified live viruses in CONTINUUM® Feline HCP provide protection against virulent FRV, FCV, and FPV challenges in 8-week-of-age or older cats for a minimum of 3 years following second vaccination.
Directions For Use
Aseptically reconstitute the desiccated vaccine with the sterile water provided and administer 1 mL by the subcutaneous route. Initial vaccination of healthy cats may be given as early as 8 weeks of age, with booster injections administered every 3-4 weeks until 12 weeks of age. Cats over 12 weeks of age should initially receive 2 doses 3-4 weeks apart. Revaccinate every three years with a single dose of CONTINUUM® Feline HCP.Precautions
1. Recommended storage temperature 35-45°F (2-7°C). Do not freeze.
2. Shake well before use.
3. Use contents promptly once reconstituted.
4. Non-chemically sterilized needles and syringes should be used for administration of vaccine.
5. Avoid vaccinating pregnant queens.
6. Administration of epinephrine may be indicated in the event of an anaphylactic reaction.
7. Contains gentamicin as preservative.
8. Burn this container and all unused contents.
9. Only healthy animals should be vaccinated. Animals incubating any disease or animals stressed due to shipping, malnutrition, or parasitism may not achieve or maintain an adequate immune response.
10. This product is not hazardous when used according to directions supplied. A material safety data sheet (MSDS) is available upon request. This and any other consumer information can be obtained by calling Intervet’s Customer Service Department at 1-800-441-8272.
