Bio-trach
This treatment applies to the following species:Fowl Laryngotracheitis Vaccine
Modified Live Virus
Read In Full
For the Prevention of Laryngotracheitis in Chickens
This vaccine consists of freeze-dried (lyophilized) preparation of a modified live virus strain of Fowl Laryngotracheitis propagated in chicken embryos. In order to retain potency, the vaccine should be stored between 2-7°C (35-45°F).
Bio-Trach Indications For Use
1. Oral Administration through Drinking Water: Chickens may be vaccinated orally with this vaccine as early as 3 weeks of age. If birds are vaccinated at this time, revaccination should be done later at 8 to 16 weeks to ensure adequate protection.
2. Eye Drop Application - For 1,000 Dose Size Only: This vaccine may be administered by eye drop method when the chickens are 14 to 16 weeks of age. The preferable age for vaccination is 16 weeks.
3. Spray Application: Birds may be vaccinated by coarse spray method when they are 6 weeks of age or older. Revaccination may be done later at 16 to 18 weeks of age.
When administered as directed, this vaccine induces the development of protective antibodies against infections caused by virulent strains of the Fowl Laryngotracheitis Virus. The level and duration of immunity depends on several factors such as the health and nutritional status of the birds, stress factors, concurrent diseases and climatic conditions.
Preparation Of The Vaccine
For Oral Administration Through Drinking Water
1. Match the dose size of the container to the number of birds to be vaccinated.
2. Tear off the aluminum seal(s) and carefully remove the stopper(s) from the vaccine vial(s).
3. Pour enough clean, non-sanitized water into the vials to fill them approximately 3/4 full. Replace the stoppers and shake well. The water used should be free of chlorine, iodine or other disinfectants that could kill the virus in the vaccine. Dry skim milk powder may be added to the water at the rate of one cup (250 mL) per 25 gallons (94L) of water or approximately 8.0 grams per gallon (3.75L) of water prior to mixing with the vaccine. For proper mixing, the reconstituted vaccine from all the vials should be added to a mixing container with the right amount of skim milk solution.
4. Agitate the vaccine in the mixing container to obtain uniform concentration of the vaccine virus.
5. Proceed immediately to vaccinate the flock as follows:
(i) Withhold chlorinated water 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccination and substitute skim milk/water solution.
(ii) Withhold water for 4-6 hours prior to vaccination to induce thirst.
(iii) On the day of vaccination, rinse the waterers with clean, non-sanitized water or milk solution in order to remove residual disinfectants. Mix the vaccine with enough water to last the birds for approximately 2-3 hours. Provide adequate space so that at least 2/3 of the birds can drink at the same time. Allow sufficient time to consume the vaccine. Soon after the vaccine is consumed, the water trough and tanks should be flushed with milk solution and rinsed with clean, non-sanitized water.
Preparation Of Vaccine
For Eye Drop Application - 1,000 Dose Size Only
1. Tear off the aluminum seal(s) and carefully remove the stopper(s) from the vaccine vial(s).
2. Remove the aluminum seal and rubber stopper from the diluent bottle and transfer enough diluent to the vaccine vial to fill them approximately 3/4 full. Replace the rubber stopper and shake vigorously for uniform mixing.
3. Transfer the mixed virus suspension from the vaccine vial into the diluent bottle containing the remaining diluent. Replace the rubber stopper and shake well to mix. Replace the rubber stopper with the dropper tip provided in the diluent carton. The vaccine is now ready for use by the following vaccination method:
Hold the bird on its side and squeeze out one drop (approximately 0.03 ml) of the vaccine to fall into the open eye. Hold the bird until the drop of vaccine disappears.
Preparation Of The Vaccine
For Spray Application
1. Match the dose size of the container to the number of birds to be vaccinated.
2. Tear off the aluminum seals and carefully remove the stopper from the vaccine vial(s).
3. Pour enough cool, distilled water into the vials to fill them approximately 3/4 full. Replace the stoppers and shake well. Put the reconstituted vaccine in the sprayer tank and add distilled water proportioned to the number of chickens to be vaccinated. Mix the vaccine thoroughly in the mixing container in order to obtain uniform concentration of the vaccine virus. The amount of water per 1,000 chickens will vary with house types, density, etc. (normally, 2-3 gallons (7.5 to 11.25L) of water is needed to vaccinate 20,000 chickens). The vaccine should be prepared according to the directions in the spray cabinet or by the directions given by the manufacturer of the field sprayer.
Spray vaccination method should be done only in houses that can be closed tightly. Close all windows, doors, ventilators, etc. Turn off the fans. Spray the vaccine directly on birds. Leave the house closed for at least 15 minutes after spraying.
Bio-Trach Cautions
1. This vaccine should be stored in a refrigerator between 2-7°C (35-45°F).
2. The vaccine should be thoroughly mixed with diluent/distilled water/water/milk and water solution prior to use (see individual administration directions).
3. Use all of the vaccine immediately after mixing. Do not store any unused, reconstituted vaccine for future use.
4. Vaccinate all the birds on the farm at one time.
5. Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
6. Vaccinate only healthy birds. The vaccine must be prepared and administered as directed in order to obtain the best results. Improper handling or administration may result in variable responses.
7. Burn the vaccine containers, packaging materials and unused vaccine, if any, when the vaccination is completed.
8. Use goggles when spraying a live virus vaccine.
9. Contains gentamicin as a preservative.
Notice
This vaccine has undergone rigid potency, safety and purity tests, and meets Intervet Inc. and USDA requirements. It is designed to stimulate effective immunity when used as directed, but the user must be advised that the response to the product depends upon many factors, including, but not limited to, conditions of storage and handling by the user, administration of the vaccine, health and responsiveness of the individual chickens and the degree of field exposure. Therefore, directions should be followed carefully.
This product is not hazardous when used according to directions supplied. A material safety data sheet (MSDS) is available upon request. This and any other consumer information can be obtained by calling Intervet Inc. Customer Service at 1-800-441-8272 or 1-302-934-8051.
Records
Keep a record of vaccine, quantity, serial number, expiration date and place of purchase; the date and time of vaccination; the number, age, breed and locations of chickens; names of operators performing the vaccination and any observed reactions.
