Bursal Disease Vaccine

Live Virus

For Veterinary Use Only

Directions For Use

Recommendations For Use

This product is a live virus vaccine containing a chicken tissue culture propagated bursal disease virus for use as an aid in the prevention of infectious bursal (Gumboro) disease in healthy chickens. Infectious bursal disease can cause excessive mortality, immunosuppression and poor growth rates in young chickens. When administered to susceptible chickens, a mild form of the disease results which stimulates immunity.

The most satisfactory vaccination schedule may vary from one area to another, depending on such factors as the incidence of disease and concentration of poultry flocks. The following vaccination schedule would be applicable to most areas but may be tailored to local conditions.

Directions For Use

This vaccine should be administered to chickens three weeks of age or older.

Preparation Of Vaccine For Drinking Water Use

Remove the aluminum overseal and stopper and add clean non-sanitized water. Replace the stopper and shake well. Pour the contents into a container 3/4 full of non-sanitized water. Shake well and dilute as outlined in the chart below. A dried skim milk powder should be added at the rate of 8.0 grams per gallon of water to the water used for the final dilution.

Method Of Vaccination

Withhold all medication and disinfectants from the drinking water 24 hours before and 24 hours after vaccinating. Rinse waterers with clean non-sanitized water and remove all water from chicks for at least two hours prior to vaccination. Provide adequate space so that at least two-thirds of the chickens can drink at one time.

Add mixture to water as per the following chart:

Provide no other drinking water until all vaccine has been consumed.

Storage

Store vaccine between 2-7°C (35-45°F).

Precautions

This vaccine is not effective when chickens are derived from strongly immune parent stock. Therefore, the immune status of the flock to be vaccinated should be determined prior to using this vaccine. Use this vaccine when parental antibody to bursal disease virus (Gumboro Disease) is at its minimum. While immunity begins to develop immediately, it generally requires 10 days to two weeks for chickens to establish immunity to Gumboro disease following vaccination, during which time they should not be placed in contaminated premises or otherwise exposed to Gumboro Disease.

Distribution in each state shall be limited to authorized recipients designated by proper state officials - under such additional conditions as these authorities may require. Recommended use shall be restricted to premises having a history of the disease.

All susceptible chickens on any farm should be vaccinated at the same time. If this is not possible, individual lots may be vaccinated if strict isolation and separate caretakers are provided for the vaccinated and unvaccinated lots of chickens.

Care should be taken to avoid contaminating your hands, eyes and clothing with the vaccine. It is imperative that the user of this product comply with the "Recommendations For Use" and 'Method of Vaccination" stated on this direction sheet. The vaccine must be prepared and administered as directed to obtain best results.

Vaccinate only healthy birds.

Use entire contents when a vial is first opened.

Burn all vials and unused contents.

Keep permanent vaccination records including vaccine serial number.

Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

The use of this vaccine is subject to State laws wherever applicable.

The vaccine contains Gentamicin and Amphotencin B as preservatives.

This vaccine has been carefully produced and has passed all tests for purity and potency according to the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
